The Energy-Water Nexus: Public Views in Texas and the U.S.
The next presentation in the Texas A&M Energy Institute Lecture Series, featuring Dr. Kent E. Portney, Director of the Institute for Science, Technology and Public Policy in the Department of Public Service and Administration within the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University, will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. in 111 Jack E. Brown Chemical Engineering Building. The topic will be “The Energy-Water Nexus: Public Views in Texas and the U.S.”
Abstract
An understanding of the Energy-Water nexus has grown in importance over the last five years and serious research funding has supported improved methods of documenting the connections. However, there is surprisingly little policy and behavioral research that examines relevant aspects of this nexus. While the scientific and technical understandings of nexus issues are paramount, it is difficult to prescribe policy actions in the absence of information about whether the general public shares these understandings. This presentation looks at an analysis of public opinion surveys in Texas and the U.S. to reveal whether and how much awareness exists on the connections between energy and water.
The surveys, dedicated to energy-water-food nexus issues and sponsored by the Institute for Science, Technology and Public Policy at the Bush School of Government and Public Service, permit comparisons between the people of Texas and people elsewhere in the U.S. to examine similarities and differences in levels and types of nexus awareness.
