
Rabi Mohtar, a Professor of Civil & Environmental Engineering, Professor of Biological & Agricultural Engineering, and a Senior Advisor for Resource Nexus in the Texas A&M Energy Institute, has been named a Laureate of TAKREEM America for his role in sustainability and environmental leadership in the United States and abroad. He was recognized at the annual TAKREEM America Awards Night and Gala in April 2025 in Washington D.C.

A global leader in environmental sustainability and resource conservation, Prof. Rabi Mohtar has pioneered innovative solutions to address the complex interconnections between water, energy, food, and health security. His groundbreaking research integrates green water accounting, dynamic soil hydro structural modeling, and Water-Energy-Food (WEF) Nexus tradeoffs, providing sustainable strategies for managing natural resources in a rapidly changing world. Prof. Mohtar’s work bridges science and policy, influencing global sustainability efforts through research, governance, and capacity building. He serves as a Governor of the World Water Council and an Executive Board Member of the International Water Resources Association, leading initiatives to modernize integrated water resources management (IWRM). His expertise is sought by policymakers in Lebanon and worldwide to develop sustainability frameworks, reform academic and research models, and enhance science-to-policy connections. At the forefront of academic innovation, Prof. Mohtar has shaped water and environmental research at Texas A&M University, where he is a Senior Advisor for the WEF Nexus Initiative at the Energy Institute. He also holds professorships in Biological & Agricultural Engineering and Civil & Environmental Engineering, with adjunct roles at the American University of Beirut (AUB) and Purdue University. His leadership extends beyond academia, fostering global partnerships and cross-disciplinary collaborations to address emerging environmental challenges. Prof. Mohtar’s contributions have earned international recognition. He has received the Hancor Award from ASABE for excellence in soil and water engineering, the Kishida International Award for global food security advancements, and a dedicated symposium in his name by the American Chemical Society. A Fellow of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, he was also honored as the Ven Te Chow Memorial Lecturer for IWRA.
