In the summer of 2022, six faculty members from six universities in Egypt traveled to Texas as a part of an exchange program supported by the United States Embassy in Cairo, Egypt, and under the direction of the Texas International Education Consortium.

These six professors, coming from Alexandria University, Assiut University, the Arab Academy for Science and Technology, Badr University, Cairo University, and Galala University, all visited several universities in Texas, including Rice University, Texas A&M University, Texas Tech University, University of Houston, and the University of Texas at Austin.

In the subsequent years, the faculty members have been engaging with the Texas A&M Energy Institute on research proposals, educational opportunities, an online workshop on the Energy-Water Nexus, and even jointly hosted an event at COP 27 called the “Climate and Energy Impact Showcase.”

Recently, the Texas A&M Energy Institute and representatives from Assiut University, the Arab Academy for Science and Technology, Badr University, Cairo University, and Zagazig University collaborated for an event in Alexandria that was hosted by the Arab Academy for Science and Technology titled “Towards Egypt’s Energy Vision 2030: Egypt’s Just Energy Transition: Decarbonization Electrification, Education and Access.”

The workshop highlighted the efforts, opportunities, and challenges toward fulfilling Egypt’s Energy Vision 2030 and beyond, and included the following topics:

  • Increasing Renewable Energy Penetration
  • Integrating Energy Storage
  • Becoming Regional Center for Energy Trade
  • New Educational Opportunities
  • Developing Energy for All Egyptians
